At Taos Recovery Center, we realize that no two people and no two roads to recovery are the same. Because everybody has their own needs when it comes to addiction recovery, we provide a number of different treatment methods and work with our patients to find which is right for them. One of the most common and effective methods that we employ is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (or CBT).
CBT is a form of psychological treatment with a focus on changing problematic thought and behavioral patterns. It is rooted in the philosophy that psychological problems are based on unhelpful ways of thinking and learned patterns of destructive behavior. By using different strategies to promote healthy thought patterns, CBT has proven to be effective in helping patients replace bad habits with good ones. It has been shown to help a wide range of behavioral problems, including (but not limited to):
CBT plays an integral role in our approach to addiction recovery. All changes in behavior, such as overcoming addiction, require a resolute change of mind. Every action or habit is the product of a preceding thought, so to change an action, one must change his or her thoughts. CBT helps patients change their thought patterns, and that is why we use it to help them overcome their addictions.
We integrate CBT in into the recovery process in a variety of settings:
More therapists, counselors and mental health specialists are recognizing the value of applying CBT to help people positively change their behavior. It has been shown to help people who are struggling with a variety of problems make lasting progress. Here are some of the positive effects that we at Taos Recovery Center have seen CBT has had on our patients:

I went to Shadow Mountain Rehab to address my issues with alcoholism and addiction. After realizing that for years I had been a functional addict I thought quitting or curbing this addiction would be easy but this disease is not so simple. Making the decision to go to Shadow Mountain Recovery in Taos, NM did not come lightly but I did understatement how much personal effort I would be putting in. 30 days doesn't solve everything but it does give you a chance to at least take stock of all that's going on in your life. Drinking and Drugs are just a symptom of something deeper and unique to each individual addressing their issues. This program gave me the tools and support to truly begin the process of addressing addiction, searching within and finding myself. I am 2 months sober now and my journey that began in the mountains of Taos goes on but the journey has definitely been made easier by what I learned in recovery. Sobriety is possible & if you work it guess what, it can work!Rehab.com
This place saved my life. There's no other way to put it. I would have lost my life to my addiction if I had not chosen Shadow Mountain in Taos. I am grateful every day that I decided on this place. I had been to inpatient rehabilitation centers before, and this is by far the best that I've been to. Everybody that works there understands and cares about what the clients are going through. The area is absolutely beautiful. There are plenty of activities to join in on. And the recovery scene in Taos is incredible. It is not an easy program, but it is life saving.Daniel Terrazas
